The Mother of God

Happy New Year! Today is the Feast of the Mother of God, the last day of the Octave of Christmas. What a wonderful opportunity to reflect on two pasasages from Scripture. The first is from Luke’s account prior to the birth of Christ (Lk 1:43) when Elizabeth encountered Mary:

And how does this happen to me, that the Mother of my Lord, should come to me?

The second passage is from Revelation 11:19 – 12:3.

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the Ark of the Covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightening, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
